The topic at hand can easily be discussed and
debated; Television and the mass medias control on its viewers. Many people
believe things such as when you see violence on television it makes you
violent. As time goes on researchers are using our vulnerable mental to
advertise items we do not need. Such as the iphone 6 or the latest pair of
jeans because they will get you laid. In order to understand the media and what
it shows us on our television screen, it is important that we understand how
advertisers think and what they believe in. Many of our media outlets are ran
by giant corporations that show us what a dumbed down reality is instead of
showing the truth. Fox is known to be a conservative news outlet and it did not
surprise me when I read that fox news is known for firing journalist due to not
fabricating a story. My stance on the subject of whether or not media controls
our mind and our daily actions is that it is up to the viewer on how they receive
the information presented on our news outlets as well as online sources. I do
not believe watching violence makes someone violent but I do believe watching
reality television has a good effect on our daily lives. We see someone we are “connected”
to in reality television shows and we can either imitate what we see or learn
from the “realities” of what is presented to us. Radio is no different than television.
“Sixty-seven years ago, six million Americans became unwitting subjects in an
experiment in psychological warfare…” (Rense.com) Halloween 1938 a radio
station began to play an adaptation of war of the worlds, it was presented to
the public and soon enough about one million people believed the world was
being attacked by aliens.
