Waiting for Godot...

What do  you think of Pozzo and Lucky? Why are they in the play?
  • Pozzo and lucky are two people who came across did and gogo's path while waiting for godot. Pozzo a wealthy man compared to lucky who is a "slave". Pozzo describes lucky as a someone who is comfortable carring his bags while to impress pozzo to keep him around although he is old and has been around long enough.
How is Didi different than Gogo?
  • Gogo can be described as a "skeptic" or non believer and is more relaxed about waiting for godot in the beginning of the play but as time goes on he becomes more anxious to meet godot.
  • Didi can be described as someone who is a firm believer in godot and as time goes on in play he becomes more willing to walk away from the tree where they were waiting for godot.
If this play is not about God, claim 3 other things, ideas that the play is actually about? Point to parts of the play to support your claim.
  • In my opinion the play is not about GOD but more about virtues and values;
  • Patience - waiting for godot or waiting for something that is unsure to happen
  • comfortable - getting to know your surroundings and people who come across your path
  • open mindedness - embrace what is to come whether beneficial or not
Cynical or Not Cynical? "distrustful or contemptuous of virtue, esp selflessness in others; believing the worst of others, esp that all acts are selfish"
  • The play as a whole is not cynical but when gogo begins questioning pozzo's motives and lifestyle is when the play becomes cynical. Here you have a man who is capable of much more than his counterpart, lucky, who is old and carries his bags.
