The effects of adding five billion more people to the planet

It is no secret our planets population is increasing at alarming rates and due to the increase in the earth’s population we will use up our oil supply in a few centuries. Oil is found on the oceans floor and comes from dead animals on the sea’s floor and cooked by nature. Venezuela discovered oil in the beginning of the 20th century and since then we have become addicted to a non-renewable source of energy that took centuries to create and decades to almost wipe out our supply. Oil companies displace citizens to bring in oil revenue; many people believe “oil companies and politicians over exaggerate how much oil is left on the sea’s floor” and the better you get at extracting oil the less you have. It is also believed that we have exceeded our sustainable supply of oil. “70% of oil use is for transportation fuel and 98% of transportation energy comes from oil”. Oil based energy is known to be the reason for the population increase within the last 150 years and with more people on the plant comes more oil use; At this rate we will reach the end of our oil supply within 30 to 40 years. Another reason oil is easily attainable is because of cheap labor. We, as humans, have become dependent on cheap labor in order to get our oil supply. In the movie Crude Awakening republican politician stated that “one barrel of oil was equal to 12 people working all year long”. Author Matthew D. Savinar stated “25,000 hours of work and buying oil for a dollar is basically free oil”; both quotes clearly support our dependency on cheap labor in order to provide us with our daily necessities. Oil peaked in the 1930’s and Two thirds of the earth’s oil reserve is in the Middle East. Many countries publicize their oil usage as being consistent and never changing when in reality countries oil production stays the same in order to keep revenue coming in. Oil is used in many products we use in our daily lives and we have become solely dependent on oil. Due to our dependency on oil it is more likely that war will be a lot more common. “When oil was first introduced to us it was scarce energy source and now it is something that is easily attainable” some people even compare how we pay more for water than we do for gas. China’s population has more than doubled over the last few years and as we have seen in our own history, with the increase in population comes an increase in oil usage. “Most of our oil will be drained by 2050” which will lead to many countries in constant war over energy use because it will not be enough oil to compensate for the earth’s population.
